Vuyiswa Dazzles in Modelling
The name Vuyiswa Tonono
is all too familiar with beauty pageants in the country. Her winning the Miss
University of Malawi (Unima) 2019, Miss Chancellor College in 2018, Miss
Chichiri Secondary School in 2015, and the Miss Valentine’s Blantyre 2016
Speaks volumes of her colorful career as a model.
The 21-year-old model
could not think of a better time to join the bandwagon of models in the Country
other than 2011 when the trade was already at its peak. The reality that she
started her journey as a gifted model at a tender age of nine is a message that
she has huge plans for the modelling industry.
The modelling ace is
pursuing a bachelor’s degree in social and economic history (Forth Year) at
Chancellor College, a constituent college of the University of Malawi. Vuyiswa
underlines that she balances well between school and modelling.
“I always find it easy integrating
my studies with modelling assignments because I work on schedules and time
management is an integral factor in my life,” she says.
The kind of tenacity of
purpose she has been displaying during bygone beauty pageants is evidence that
there is a mentor behind the scenes. She admits that her mother has been
instrumental in all her success as regards modelling and education.
“I started modelling when
I was nine. However, I count myself as someone who is lucky to have a
supportive mother. It has been a joy getting success tips from her at an early
stage,” she says.
Born on November 29 2000,
the Machinjiri-based model has a heart for girl child empowerment, therefore
she plans to start a youth organization that will present girls with a platform
to amplify their voice and gain some much-needed spotlight at national level.
She says: As a role
model, I have always harboured a dream of inspiring girls to believe in the
beauty of their potential and dreams.
“Girls should have the
belief that they can become whatever positive thing they dream of, because by
the end of the day dreams do come true if chased with determination.”
The model gets her
inspiration from Naomi Campbell.
