Breaking The Culture of Silence in Feminine Circles

                                                   A ward-winning Songstress: Keturah

Keturah’s new song Achisale is a choir of many ladies but sung by a single voice. The artist sings of a social message that is troubling the peace of many a number of ladies on the Malawian society and the world at wholesale. The song goes: “Za moyo wanu tiziziwa, zenizeni tinaziwona, Chigoba chimavuka Achisale, muzayaluka nazo, mukufuna akutameniyo ndani, Mwachulukidwa Achisale. Matama wa muzagwera kumphompho, malangizo abwino simumva, mumamva zanu zokha, mmadana ndichilungamo.

Recently the gifted singer broke up with her boyfriend and former manager Pemphero Mphande over infidelity issues. The separation news reached the streets in the aftermath of keturah’s emergence from her sabbatical which had people fearing for her welfare as no one knew of her whereabouts. Keturah’s disappearance was a few weeks following news that the composer and her ex-lover had terminated their artist-and-manager work relationship. The retrogressive development raised eyebrows as at the time Keturah’s fans were already in suspense as regards if the two were having a romantic bond. Yes, it is true that they were having a romance as Keturah herself later confirmed via a video which she shared on social media when Prophet Liabunya warned that Mr. Mphande might lose his life rest he prays ceaselessly to gain favour in the eyes of the Lord. The paradise of the two was home and dry, only that Keturah was subjected to a Chigoba (Shell) by her former lover, a doing that is common among men like Achisale who don’t show off their love partners in fear of chasing away potential ladies whom they might flirt with. But in a different thinking, it can be argued that Pemphero Mphande is just accustomed to hiding people’s true identity as is the case on his Facebook page which has a desirable fan base. It can also be argued that Mr. P likes to keep things at a low key, especially when it comes to personal matters.

Much as Keturah is singing from her own individual experience but in a parable fashion, her message is echoing with the extended community of women that have walked in similar shoes before but maybe haven’t had a platform to break the silence on the plight that is facing them.

Achisale is a song that will survive the walk of time as it carries a social message that is bathed with a substance of feminine justice. The producer of the song did a recommendable job in coming up with an instrumental that perfectly resonates with the songstress’s music genre which is traditional Jazz fused with some modern musical instruments. Above all, Keturah is so expressive in the song, a listener would easily notice the pain in the song. The song has been dressed in emotion but in a splendid musical style.

On a lighter note, Keturah should receive her flowers for embracing her sad experience to come up with a beautiful music product. It Takes a strong woman to walk away from a toxic relationship and breath a new dawn to her existence.

    1. Thanks is in order. much as 'letting go' is a mountain too high to climb for most of the ladies, but there is need to realize that when one door of happiness closes another opens.
