A Girl and Her Fashion Modelling Gift

In Malawi, Modelling is one of the popular cultures that is booming at a speed of light. From exhibition of apparel designs to making cameo in commercial adverts, models are at a high demand in the industry like COVID19 vaccines.

Talking of names that are making waves in the modeling Industry, there is need to mention of Thandie Immaculate Chisi. Her dazzling, sizzling, unique and unmistakable beauty, leaves no room for a benefit of doubt as to why she is a dream for every Malawian content creator.

The tall, slim and sassy model, who is popularly known as ‘Tee’ among her peers, started the art of modelling in 2017 and acknowledges that, the journey has been full of ‘highs and lows’.

“Well, I started professional modelling in 2017. It’s been an interesting experience with highs and lows. I have worked with different people in the industry. I have done both Television commercials and runway shows. Meanwhile, I’m Looking forward to more.”

The third-year scholar in Social Science, majoring in Sociology at Chancellor College (Chanco), a constituent college of the University of Malawi (UNIMA) is very eager to invigorate the art of modelling in Malawi as its been her dream all along. She stated, “I have always wanted to work in the fashion industry. So, I thought modelling would meet the need”.

Just like any other showbiz sector in Malawi, it’s not all rosy in the beauty industry as well. There are many hurdles that the performers and the industry as a whole face when plying their trade.

The Lilongwe-based model, pointed out at exploitation as one of the challenges that she faces. She further explained that the industry needs to be galvanized as it is still early in its development.

She postulated that: “Modelling is still one of the least developed industries in our country. We have a long way to go. However, we are getting there. There has been some progress.”

Quizzed on a model who inspires her, the gorgeous model said she draws her inspiration from multi-award-winning American supermodel Tyra Banx also known as BanX in modelling circles. Just like what the host of ‘America’s Next Top Model’ has achieved in the industry, Chisi wants to emulate her as she envisions of owning a modelling school or an agency in Malawi. 

Note: Meanwhile, Thandie Chisi, is gearing to showcase her knack for modelling at a fashion symposium that will take place at Domino Gardens on 3rd September during the launch of a book titled “The Art of Needle and Thread”. The event will be characterized by music, poetry, fashion parade and portrait exhibitions. An array of professional fashion designers is billed to showcase apparel designs with the aid of reputable models. The newly crowned Miss culture Malawi 2022 will also grace the occasion in the capacity of a guest speaker. Tickets are now available and they attract different price ranges.
